Hi Everyone,
I suppose I’ll kick off the introductions with my story and background with Sonex Aircraft. Last year, I had an opportunity fall in my lap to purchase an abandoned kit that was originally owned by a local high school’s aviation technologies class. The kit is an original Sonex design circa 2006. While the kit is missing some of the original components, it was priced accordingly and, to be honest, too good of a deal to pass up. The students enrolled that were enrolled in the program managed to complete the ailerons, flaps, tail surfaces, and just started on some of the spar tasks.
Right after acquiring the kit, I decided to do the B-model conversion and began taking inventory of what I had, what work was already done, and what needed to be redone. Fast forward a year, and I am about 700 hours into having an actual flying airplane!
I am using a Gen 3 Jabiru 3300 that I picked up used, a Prince P-tip prop (which just arrived today), and a Dynon panel (including a Garmin GPS175). The plan is to having the project completed this summer and phase 1 finished by the end of the year.
I know many of you were on the old forum and I would like to thank you profusely for all of the advice and guidance you have given. Just like raising kids, it takes a village to get a bunch of aluminum airborne.
